DISTURBED by increasing rate of vehicular accidents on Ilishan, Irolu Remo, Ago-Iwoye roads in Ogun State, indigenes, students and residents of the towns have called the attention of government to their plight, saying “we are tired of witnessing accidents on the roads.

Checks by Community News in towns like Ilishan, Irolu Remo, Ago-Iwoye, Isiwun, Owote and other communities, all in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, showed that major roads in the towns were in bad shape with many pot-holes containing rain water.

Not only that, motorists plying Ilishan-Irolu-Remo-Ago-Iwoye roads told Community News that if not for the Students Union Government of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, who often beg them not to neglect the students of the institution at Ago-Iwoye campus, they would have witndrawn their services from the roads.

Commenting on the pains which people of Irolu-Remo town experience on the bad road on daily basis, the traditional ruler of the town, the Onirolu of Irolu town, Oba Sikiru Adeilo Adeyija, told Community News that he had done all he could do to attract the attention of the state government to repair the bad road, but that government seemed not to be concerned about the welfare of the people of the town.

According to the monarch, “many students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, living at Irolu Remo town had, because of its closeness to Ago-Iwoye, left the town in annoyance because they were tired of getting involved in accidents caused by the bad road. I won’t deceive you, many lives had been lost on the road with many vehicles damaged,” he said.

“We called the attention of the immediate past civilian government in the state to this problem, but nothing was done, my people have suffered enough on the road and I think the new government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun would do something to bail us out of the bad situation,”he stated.

Oba Adeyija further explained that the bad Irolu-Remo road also linked Benin Expressway and it is the shortest route to the highway. “The accident on this road was becoming alarming. We are under Ikenne Local Government Area and we want speedy attention in terms of road rehabilitation to save innocent lives,” he pleaded.

Speaking about the road and what people of Irolu-Remo wanted from Ogun State government, the President,Ogun State Traditional Healers Association, Chief Gabriel Oluwole Ogunsanya, while conducting Community News round Irolu-Remo town to see how bad the road was, said for the past five years, no dividends of democracy had come to the town
