A new pan-Yoruba group, Apapo Oodua Koya, (AOKOYA) said today that it has “trusted” information that Boko Haram, the dreaded extremist Islamic group, is likely to attack Lagos and Ibadan in the next few days or in the month of July.

“Boko Haram thinks the best way to get attention is through sustained attacks, but the surest way to dominate national discuss and stir critical opinions is to take the battle to the country’s economic hub, which is Lagos and Ibadan,” the group said in a statement in Ibadan signed by its Secretary for Internal Affairs, Alhaji Mufatau Adedoyin.

This Chinese man, under the influence of drugs, dangled his terrified 3 year old daughter out of a 6th floor window after having an argument with the girl's mother. This happened over the weekend in Guangzhou, capital of China's Guangdong province.

Secretary to the Delta State Government's son kidnapped

Markson Macaulay, the son of the Secretary to the Government of Delta State, Ovuozourie Macaulay, was this afternoon abducted in his hometown of Owheologbo, Isoko North LGA of Delta State.

The 28yr old young man who recently returned to Nigeria after schooling abroad, was kidnapped in front of his family's home around 12 noon today.

The kidnappers are yet to contact the family.

UNILAG resumes academic activities

Academic activities resumed today Monday June 18th at the University of Lagos, 19 days after the institution was shut down following protests that took place over the re-naming of the iconic institution.

Meanwhile the University senate say the proposed re-naming of the school is totally unacceptable to them and will fight to retain the name - University of Lagos.

Bomb blasts and gun battle reported in Damaturu, Yobe State

Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, has come under a siege today following heavy gunfire and bomb blasts as soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order engage suspected Boko Haram fighters in a bloody duel. The gun battle began around 5p.m as JTF troops moved to dislodge the deadly sect from the city.
The fighting is raging mainly in Sabon Pegi and New Jerusalem areas.

One of the battle fronts is near the residence of the state governor, Ibrahim Geidam.
JTF and Boko Haram have been engaged in deadly clashes in Maiduguri, the capital of neighbouring Borno State, for some weeks now. (Punch)

The 24 year old Barcelona player has confirmed he is going to be a father. The world's number one footballer is expecting his first child with girlfriend, Antonella Roccuzzo.

"I think it will be a boy," Messi is quoted as saying by Ole. "We did not want to say anything because we never talk about our private life. But we were constantly asked about it, so we wanted to share our joy."

Money Laundering: US Freezes Nigerian Embassy's Accounts

Bank of America, M&T Bank and Wells Fargo received directive from the US government to close the accounts of the Nigerian embassy in Washington and its consulate in New York on suspicion of money laundering after traffic on the various accounts raised a red flag.

$3.6 million dollars was said to have entered and left the accounts in under a month, the latest transaction being the withdrawal of $50,000 in hard cash by a top embassy staff.

Rodney King, the man whose 1991 videotaped beating by Los Angeles police officers led to one of the most destructive race riots in America's history after the acquittal of the four officers involved, has died.

Several bombs tore through two churches this morning; Christ Catholic Church, Yoruba st, Sabo, and ECWA church in Wusasa, Zaria, Kaduna, and there might be a third church. At least 8 people have been confirmed dead by eyewitnesses who are giving minute by minute report on Twitter. They also say there's ongoing gunfight between police and gunmen in the Sabongari area of the city where another church is reportedly under attack. Angry mobs have attacked and killed two suspects while police and military men are trying to disperse angry crowds.

PDP goes commercial: Plans to take loans, invest in oil, telecoms, real estate

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has concluded arrangements to take bank loans and become a commercial entity.

The party's National Working Committee (NWC), chaired by Bamangar Tukur, hopes to raise short, medium and long term loans from financial institutions to fund party investments and programmes with minimum risk. The party plans to invest in various sectors of the economy; and the NWC is to establish a holding company which will help negotiate the interests of the party in all investments. The party's Peoples Democratic Institute will also be placed under a holding company.

I've been getting quite a number of SOS messages all morning from female students of the Igbinedion University, Okada, Benin City. According to them, ex-militants invaded their school by 5am this morning (they are still there at the time of filing this report). The are destroying cars and macheting people. Several of the male students have been injured. They've also blocked the main gate of the school so no one can come in or go out!

There's a lot of chaos going on in the school right now and the students are scared to the death as the militants have gained access into one of the girls hostel.

Please we are calling on relevant authorities to go to the school right now and help these students. Will tell you all later why the school was invaded. Right now let's try and help these students. Call anyone you know that can be of help...

Update: The school is now calm. No life was lost but several students were injured. New reports suggest it was a clash between students and ex-militants who are also students of the school.

Farouk Lawan released on bail

Embattled lawmaker Farouk Lawan was this afternoon released on bail after being in police custody at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, for two days. He was released on the condition that he produces the alleged $620000 bribe he received before the end of next week.

His international passport was also seized by police to prevent him from traveling out.

Congrats to Uche Eze of Bella Naija on her wedding

The lady who started it all and inspired me and quite a number of other bloggers, Uche Eze, 28, married her longtime love Bode Pedro, 30, today. May God bless their marriage.

Chris Brown mad at TMZ

Chris is angry at TMZ because the media outlet reported that it was Chris' posse that accidentally hit Chris Brown's bodyguard, Big Pat, with the bottle that sliced his forehead open, and not anyone from Drake and Meek Millz' entourage. See the rest of his rants after the cut.

Meanwhile despite denying his involvement in the brawl, independent eyewitnesses have told detectives from the New York Police Department that Drake absolutely started the fight by throwing a bottle at Chris. The police might arrest Drake after concluding their investigations.

Footballer Kanu Nwankwo, singer Banky W, actress Funke Akindele Oloyede and OAP Steve 'Yaw' Onu have been announced as Olympic torch bearers to herald the forthcoming Olympic games in London.

These outstanding Nigerians will be carrying the torch at the Olympic Torch Relay holding at Coventry on July 1^st 2012.
