President Jonathan commissions bullet-proof vest factory in Kaduna

The president commissioned a bullet-proof vest production factory at the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) yesterday in Kaduna.

The factory will produce bullet-proof vests and other textile wares for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country.

Attackers kill nine construction workers in Maiduguri

Attackers slit the throats of at least nine construction workers on Monday in Maiduguri, the army said. No one claimed responsibility for the attack and the army did not say who was to blame.

Soldiers found the nine bodies in a construction workers’ compound in the city’s Bolori area at around 7 a.m., military spokesman Sagir Musa said. A nurse at a local hospital told Reuters ten bodies were brought in on Monday morning. (Reuters)

Anderson Cooper has publicly acknowledged for the first time that he is a gay, proud man. The 45 year old CNN anchorman and talk show host revealed this in a letter to DailyBeast.com.

Anderson Cooper wrote:

"There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand. The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud. In a perfect world, I don't think it's anyone else's business, but I do think there is value in standing up and being counted. The Lagos State Government has advised residents in flood prone areas to relocate for the next two weeks to avoid loss. They also advised people to stay home when it's raining heavily!

Partial closure of 3rd Mainland Bridge suspended

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transport has announced the temporary suspension of the closure of Third Mainland Bridge (the longest bridge in West Africa), which was scheduled for today, Sunday, July 1, 2012.

He said the Federal Ministry of Works is not ready to commence the repair works and will let Lagosians know when all issues have been resolved.

Some of the core criteria included security apparatus, factionalised elite, legitimacy of the state, external intervention, poverty and economic decline, uneven development, group grievance and demographic pressures, human flight and public services.

Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson joke about the ear biting incident

Last Thursday marked the 15 year anniversary of the infamous boxing match between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield where Mike shockingly bit off a chunk of Evander's ear. The June 28, 1997 WBA heavyweight title fight held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
