he Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said that every northerner has the right to contest the 2015 presidential election.
This is because the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 as president has cancelled the zoning system in the country, the ACF said.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Mr. Anthony Sani, who disclosed this in an interview with the Daily Sun at the weekend, also cautioned politicians against 2015.
According to him: “President Jonathan was given the mandate to rule the country for four years and he is in his second year.
“We should allow him to finish before talking of who will be the next president.”
Sani further explained that the issue of zoning is dead, as, according to him: “North will contest the presidency come 2015, but it is not going to be on the basis of zoning.
“Nigerians have passed judgment against zoning since the emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as President in 2011 nstead of allowing the North to continue after the demise of late President Umaru Yar’Adua.”
Sani said to talk of 2015 now would distract attention.
He said: “This is not the time of politics, but when the time comes, the North will surely contest for Presidency.”
On the current issue of insecurity in the country, Sani said it needed a collective approach, led by the Federal Government.
He pointed out: “Security is everyone’s business as we must come together collectively, irrespective of religion, tribes, region or ethnicity to solve this problems in the best interest of the country.”
He blamed the present security situation in the country to poor leadership and appealed to leaders in the country to sit-up in order to tackle the problems confronting the country.
The ACF spokesman also disagreed with those calling for the division of this country, saying: “Nobody can divide the country.
“God knows why He kept us together and we shall continue to be together for unity, peace, progress and the overall development of the country.”
